What is our MBA Essay Preparation Process?
Writing the MBA essays is one of the most important parts of the MBA application process. The full MBA essay preparation process is usually comprised of 4 steps. You may pick and choose which steps you would like to focus on:
1. Outline Interview
The outline is the skeleton or abstract of your essay.
This is the first part of the MBA essay preparation process.
The outline is normally written in a form of short bullet points
and its purpose is:
a. To create a logical flow of content.
b. To make sure you don’t miss crucial information/points in
your essay.
The outline interview is conducted by the Aringo MBA admission consultant, and
its purpose is to create content for the outline. The interview
usually begins by determining the relevant content for the
essay. This is done by using the original "Admission Drivers"
system, which was developed by our team and is constantly being
updated based on our research.
The subject of the essay (for example ‘describe your greatest
achievement’) is the focus of the interview. During the
interview, your MBA admission consultant will interview you about the essay
topic and take notes of your responses in the form of an outline
for the essay.
Your MBA admission consultant takes into account the topics most likely to be
emphasized by each admissions committee, based on the Aringo
research.
The purpose of the outline is on one hand, to be the basis of an
authentic essay, and on the other hand to have an optimal effect
on the admissions committee. Therefore, to maintain authenticity,
the outline will only be structured from the actual words you
used.
2. Writing the Outline
Following the outline interview, your MBA admission consultant will
write the outline of the essay. In many cases, the outline will
include short bullet points or exact quotes of content points
that you raised during the outline interview. The consultant
will send you the outline once it has been written.
3. Writing the First Draft
Once you’ve received the outline, write the first draft
of your essay based on the outline. Then, send it to your
MBA admission consultant.
Please note: the outline contains only the ‘dry facts’
- the
content anchors. However, it is important that you add "your
personal touch" and personality to the essay, and only you can
do that!
It is important that your essays be moving, personal, honest and
true – this will help you evoke empathy within the reader.
4. Editing
Once your MBA admission consultant receives your essay draft, he/she will
first focus on the content. If the consultant reaches the
conclusion that strategic or structural changes are required in
your essay, he/she will point them out to you.
Often, the process is gradual, and it usually requires 2-6
editing rounds until a satisfying version is achieved. This is
the final stage in the MBA essay writing process.
*However, in terms of cost effectiveness, one or two editing
rounds are often enough. The added value of each editing round
is normally smaller than that of the round before that.
*In parallel to the work on one essay, pick
another essay and start the MBA essay writing process from Stage 1.
The Process Described Above was Defined in Order to
Fulfill a Dual-Purpose:
1. Authentic Essay
An authentic essay is a personal, honest, original, interesting,
and occasionally moving or daring essay. Its purpose is to show
that behind the words of the essay there is a human and unique
person. An authentic essay evokes interest within the reader. It
is memorable, and quite often arouses sympathy towards the
applicant.
One of the main purposes of Aringo's MBA admission consulting is to assist
you in different ways to write authentic MBA essays.
Our conversations with admissions committees show that authentic
application documents are often more effective in terms of
admission chances. Therefore, Aringo instructs its MBA admission
consultants to maintain your original language when editing the
text. This includes small "foreignisms" (indicators that English
is not the first language of the applicant) to maintain
authenticity. In the case of ‘foreignisms,’ if you feel that
this approach should not apply to you, please instruct your
MBA admission consultant accordingly.
2. Focused Essay
A focused essay has the content and the logic that
increase your admission chances. A focused essay doesn’t have to
be a literary masterpiece. It has to show that you have the
characteristics ("Admission Drivers") that the specific program
you are applying to would like its students to have.
According to our experience, a focused essay is not necessarily
a super-impressive essay, however it “gives you points” on the
qualities that the Admissions Committee is looking for in its MBA
candidates.

What is Aringo's Recommendation Preparation Process?
Your candidacy will be stronger if your recommender prepares a
specific recommendation for each university and answers each
university’s specific recommendation questions.
As part of our MBA application assistance, your MBA admission consultant will
interview your recommenders and write an effective
recommendation sample for each school and each recommender (in
the cases where this is ethically acceptable).
How to send a recommendation?
Enter your recommender’s name and email address into the
university’s online application system. Subsequently, your
recommender will receive an email containing instructions on how
to write the recommendation.
Alternatively, some universities allow sending hard copy
recommendations. Please review the exact instructions on the
admissions page of the relevant university website.
Recommendation Creation Stages:
Let’s assume you've selected Steve as one
of your recommenders.
1. Contact Steve. Update him that you are applying to top MBA
programs, and you would appreciate receiving a recommendation
from him. Inform him that:
• You are applying to X (amount of) universities.
• Each school asks specific questions on its recommendation
form. Therefore, it is required to write a separate
recommendation for each university.
• Each recommendation is, normally, 2-5 pages long.
2. Ask Steve which of the following options he prefers:
a. You will prepare an example of an “ideal recommendation” for
each university in order: (i) for him to understand your
expectations (ii) to refresh his memory regarding the details of
your relationship.
Or
b. You will introduce him to your MBA admission consultant, who
will interview him and then write the recommendation on his
behalf.
If Steve (your recommender) chooses option b,
ask him to contact your Aringo MBA application consultant (or ask
your consultant to contact him). The consultant will interview
Steve and then prepare recommendation drafts. Your MBA admission
consultant
will follow the Aringo guidelines in preparing effective MBA
recommendations for the top schools.
If Steve chooses option a, continue the process
as described below.
3. Check the school’s ethical guidelines on recommendations, and
make sure you comply with them (they may dictate a different
process from the one described below).
If applicable, emphasize to Steve that according to the schools’
ethical code of conduct, you are not permitted to review the
recommendation he will ultimately submit. He may use the example
you prepared for him, change it, or ignore it.
4. If Steve is interested in such a recommendation example, choose
one school and complete steps 5-8.
Focusing on one school before proceeding to the others will
often streamline the process.
It is recommended that you first choose a school that does not
limit the number of words for recommendations. This way, it will
be easier and faster to prepare recommendation examples for the
next schools.
5. Contact your MBA admission consultant and schedule a date for
your recommendation interview. We recommend that you conduct the
recommendation interview for the first school verbally (on the
phone or in–person).
• The interview will be more efficient if you consider in
advance what your professional weaknesses are. These are usually
the “toughest nut to crack.”
What might Steve say? Which weakness would be most credible
(based on your relationship), would portray you accurately and
truthfully, and would present you relatively positively? Prepare
several options and present them to your application consultant.
• In addition, in order to prepare for the recommendation
interview with your consultant, review the school’s
recommendation questions (if you don’t have them, ask your
consultant to send them to you). Think about possible answers.
The more prepared you are for your recommendation interview, the
more efficient the process will be.
6. During the recommendation interview, your MBA admission consultant will
review the university’s specific recommendation questions with
you. These questions refer to your relationship with Steve, your
demonstrated abilities and your achievements during the
relationship period. The consultant will take brief notes of
your responses.
Usually, the recommendation interview takes 40-90 minutes.
7. Following the recommendation interview, your MBA admission consultant will
prepare Steve’s “ideal recommendation” for the university in
question.
8. Present Steve with the “ideal recommendation.” Convey to him
that this is an example of a recommendation that you would be
happy to receive, and it will also refresh his memory regarding
your work together. Should he choose, he may ignore the example
altogether.
9. Ask Steve whether he would like you to prepare additional
examples for the other schools, since each school has its own
set of unique questions. If Steve agrees, schedule an additional
recommendation interview with your consultant. During this
recommendation interview, you and your consultant will review
and answer the recommendation questions of the other
universities.
10. Following the recommendation interview, your MBA admission consultant will
prepare Steve’s “ideal recommendation” for each of the
subsequent schools to which you are applying.
11. Present Steve with the “ideal recommendations”. Convey to
him that these are examples of recommendations that you would be
happy to receive, and they will also reacquaint him with your
relationship. Should he choose to, he may ignore the examples
altogether (the ethical code of conduct for most schools states
that a candidate cannot see the recommendations that the
recommender sent).

Aringo Tips for Making the Most Out of the Work Process
The following tips will help you get the most out of Aringo's MBA admission consulting process and possibly reduce costs:
- At the end of each meeting, ask your application
consultant: "what should I prepare for the next
meeting?"
The more prepared you are for your meetings, the shorter and more efficient they are. - The full Aringo MBA
application preparation
process is a thorough one; however it does not suit everyone
in terms of cost.
If your budget is limited, consider working with Aringo thoroughly on one university application, and then working independently on the others.
After all, the work done on the first application usually builds the foundation for the subsequent university applications. - Usually, the schools set a word limit (for example, 500 words) for each essay. The closer the first draft is to the word limit, the less time your consultant will have to spend on it.
- During the MBA essay writing process, when a client sends a document to the consultant for editing/commenting, the consultant usually edits the document independently and then sends it back to the client. However, occasionally, clients prefer to actually be present (either in person or over the phone) when the consultant edits the document. We recommend you consider this option. Some of our clients find it more efficient as it allows them better control over the cost.
- It is recommended to perfectly complete one recommendation-example for one school before starting to work on the next recommendation (by the same recommender) for another school. This normally assures that the recommendation versions are managed more efficiently.
- While working on the essays and recommendations, some Aringo clients prefer working in “marathon-mode” (half a day straight) with their consultant. Some clients report that they find this helpful in focusing on the tasks at hand. Consider taking a day off work to work in “marathon-mode” with your consultant.
- Some of our clients find that conducting the work with the application consultant in-person or over the phone/Skype is more efficient than via email.
- Most application consultants (also the ones at
Aringo) prefer
to conduct the work well in advance of the deadline (the
earlier the better). This allows the consultant to fully focus
his/her attention on you and your application. It also ensures
maximum availability of our different application experts.
The consultant’s workload normally increases during the 2 weeks before the deadline. As a result, response speed may decrease. It is recommended that you plan your work schedule accordingly. - Once you start working on your second university application,
you will find that there were things you could have done better
in the first application. This is natural.
Therefore, we usually advise our clients to complete work on the first application several weeks prior to the official deadline. This way, you will have additional time to work on improving your first application (while working on the second), and will be able to submit it ahead of the deadline. - Some MBA programs ask their
applicants to interview before submitting their application.
Please check this policy on the admissions’ page of the school website (or discuss this with your Aringo admission consultant), to make sure you perform the interview in time. - Create your username and
password in the
Online Application
System of the schools you are applying to (if you haven’t yet
done so). An early acquaintance with the school’s system can
help you submit a strong, complete application, on time.
